The computer based speech screen is suitable for children between 4 and 8 years of age and takes around ten minutes to complete. The screen consists of about 40 engaging easily recognisable pictures. The child names the pictures and the adult enters the responses. At the end of the screen the computer recommends age appropriate speech programmes with a suggested order of work. If the child has a complex difficulty discussion with the speech and language therapy service is recommended.

Language Link

This package enables teachers and teaching assistants to screen for receptive language difficulties and implement support for children with straightforward language delays.

The package offers a receptive language screening assessment with supporting resources and classroom strategies. Like Speech Link, Language Link is not intended as a substitute for existing speech and language therapy services or work in the classroom. It is designed to be used alongside them to provide targeted help for children with difficulty understanding language.

The Language Link Screening Assessment

This computer based language screen is designed for children aged between 4 and 5½ years. It targets eight key areas that a child needs to understand in order to access learning in the classroom.

The screen takes around ten minutes to complete. The child is invited by the adult to point to a targeted picture on the computer from successive choices of 3 to 4 easily recognisable images.

The screen will identify those children requiring school based language support and those who require discussion with the speech and language therapy service. Where delayed understanding is identified programmes of work will be suggested.

Class Language Profiles

A special feature of this package allows charting of the levels of understanding of language for the whole class. This enables the school to identify the general receptive language levels of the whole year group. Re-screening can offer supporting evidence of in school improvement.

The data can be used to make comparisons across class, school and regional groupings and the analysis for individual children can be added to the portfolio of knowledge about a child. School data can also be used to inform school based evaluation protocols and where agreed by local partnership agencies this data could be used to help plan allocation of resources.
